The Family Place Utah is seeking a part-time (15-20 hours per week) Victim Advocate to join our Victim Intervention Program in support of our mission, “Strengthening families and protecting children.” The Victim Advocate provides support and coordination of services to victims of crime. Must be bilingual Spanish and English and able to effectively interact with individuals from diverse cultures.

Duties Synopsis

The Victim Advocate position provides emotional support to victims while coordinating services including information, referrals, identification of and connection to resources, completing CVR applications and paperwork.  The Victim Advocate will be available to meet victim needs through walk in services in order to help provide increased access to support.  Advocates offer victims information about the different options available to them and support victims’ decision-making. Advocates do not tell victims what to do. Advocates are committed to maintaining the highest possible levels of confidentiality in their communications with victims. Must be able to work from TFPU office locations and remotely via secure, private, HIPAA-compliant online connection as assigned.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Services related background.
2. Ability to pass a suitability determination and criminal background check.
3. Proficient in English: verbal, reading, writing.
4. Bilingual Spanish/English required.
5. Competent in computer use, i.e., databases, MS Word, Excel.

2. Ability to handle all interactions in a trauma-informed manner.
3. Culturally sensitive, effectively engaging with individuals from diverse cultures.
4. Highly organized, take initiative.
5. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
6. Experience working with children and adolescents preferred.
7. Experience with crisis-related services preferred.
8. Ability to maintain self-care and to work well under stress.
9. Knowledge of child and adolescent development and of positive parenting approaches.
10. Knowledge of community resources and referral process.
11. Knowledge of child abuse symptoms and their effect on victims.
